People: Not welcome to the club

From Wire Reports The Spokesman-Review

Two Florida nightclubs known as Club Paris will no longer be associated with their namesake – Paris Hilton.

Owner Fred Khalilian said he “fired” the hotel heiress because she has failed to attend scheduled appearances at the original location in downtown Orlando.

The troubles started two years ago when Hilton showed up six hours late for the grand opening, Khalilian said.

“She’s created a circus for herself,” he said. “It’s all about: How has she screwed up now?”

He said he doesn’t want to change the name of the club, or another opened in Jacksonville last year, because the name is so well-known.

Instead of Club Paris representing Hilton, he said, it will stand for the French city.

Khalilian plans to hold a competition to find the new face of his clubs.

Said Hilton’s spokesman, Elliot Mintz: “I’m certainly disappointed to learn of Fred’s unfortunate comments. We shall address his statements at the appropriate time.”

Lohan laid low

Lindsay Lohan underwent surgery Thursday to remove her appendix.

The 20-year-old actress reportedly wasn’t feeling well Wednesday and went to a doctor, who determined she had appendicitis.

Lohan has a history of hospital visits, including treatment in July after being overcome by heat on a movie set; two trips in January 2006, one for a cut on her leg and another after an asthma attack; and a 2005 stay for exhaustion.

Busta busted again

Busta Rhymes was charged Thursday with misdemeanor assault for allegedly beating another man in a dispute over money.

The 34-year-old rapper, born Trevor Smith, was previously charged with assault after an Aug. 12 performance at the AmsterJam Music Festival in New York.

Police have also sought to question him as a potential witness in the shooting death of his bodyguard last February.

Take a chance on fees

Swedish tax officials want ABBA star Bjorn Ulvaeus to pay $2.1 million on undeclared royalties from the supergroup’s hits.

It’s the second time the Swedish Tax Authority has claimed the 61-year-old singer dodged taxes by not declaring millions in royalties going back decades.

Last year, the authority claimed that almost $13 million in back taxes, fees and interest was owed on contracts Ulvaeus signed before moving to England in 1984.

That case is on appeal.

Nobody sells it better

Carly Simon will go on the QVC today to hawk her new CD, “Into White.”

Simon, 61, will perform with her children, Ben and Sally Taylor — from her marriage to James Taylor – during a 30-minute broadcast at 4 p.m.

Other artists who have appeared on the home-shopping channel to promote their music include Barry Manilow, Elton John, Neil Diamond, Alabama and Chaka Khan.
