Girl Scouts on lookout for new members

We’ve all heard of the Girl Scouts (Thin Mint, anyone?), but there is much more to the organization than the annual cookie sale. Anyone interested in finding out more about the group is invited to a sports night and information fair sponsored by Troop 222 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Jan. 17 at Bowdish Middle School, 2109 S. Skipworth St.

Activities will include jumping rope, a basketball hoop shoot and soccer obstacle course. Membership in Girl Scouts is open to all girls ages 5 through 17. Girls and their parents are welcome to attend and check out the group.

Call (509) 747-8091, ext. 208, for more information. And cookie fans, take heart. The annual sale is set to start in March.

Buckle up baby

Strapping in a car seat correctly can be harder than it looks. If the seat is not installed correctly, it won’t provide enough protection in a crash. With this in mind, the Spokane Regional Health District is sponsoring a free child car seat check Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at George Gee, 21502 E. Mission Lane in Liberty Lake. Experts will check car seat installation and make any needed fixes to have the little one safely cocooned while you drive away.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

Snow and ice are the name of the game at the “Winter Fun” January Family MAC Fest from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Museum of Arts and Culture, 2316 W. First Ave. Check out dry ice experiments and ice sculpting, eat some shaved ice and make crafts related to snow.

Admission is $10 per family and includes all activities, admission to the museum and a tour of historic Campbell House. MAC members are admitted free. Call (509) 456-3931 for more information.
