Achievements : Area students receive WSU scholarships

Washington State University recently announced scholarships awarded to several local high school seniors. Students must hold a grade-point average of 3.8 or higher and are selected on the basis of academic performance, leadership and community activities.

Kimberly Gering was awarded a four-year Distinguished Regents scholarship worth more than $54,000. Gering, a student at Central Valley High School, is the daughter of Gail and Brian Gering of Liberty Lake.

Six local students were awarded Silver level Regents Scholarships worth $8,000 over two years:

Amanda Connell, the daughter of Donna and Ron Connell of Spokane, is a student at Gonzaga Prep.

Lauree Crane, a student at Shadle Park High School, is the daughter of Melinda and Charles Crane of Spokane.

Melissa Johns, a student at West Valley High School, is the daughter of Helen and Thomas Johns of Spokane.

Kristen Kopczynski, the daughter of Melissa and Don Kopczynski of Spokane, is a student at Mead High School.

Sean M. Leonard, the daughter of Lynn and Wayne Leonard of Spokane, is a student at Lewis and Clark High School.

Kjerste Tangvald, a student at Ferris High School, is the daughter of DeAnn and Rolf Tangvald of Spokane.
