Pickup collides with patrol car

From Staff Reports The Spokesman-Review

An alleged drunken driver collided with a Spokane Police officer late Friday, according to officials. No one was seriously injured in the 11:13 p.m. crash, but a suspect in the back of the officer’s patrol car had to be treated for minor injuries.

The police officer was southbound on Monroe Street when a white pickup heading north suddenly turned left toward Chelan Avenue in front of her patrol car, resulting in the collision.

The officer was headed to the Spokane County Jail with a male suspect in the back of her vehicle. The suspect was transported to an area hospital, where he was treated and released for minor injuries. Both the pickup and the patrol car had to be towed from the scene, according to police.

The driver of the pickup, Lloyd Lewis, 71, of Spokane, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
