Tyson’s new wings ‘meat’ with approval

These wings are hot – or, not.

Some members of the Spokesman-Review reader food panel thought Tyson’s new hot and spicy wings lived up to their name, others said they might dial up the spice even more. The tasting session of Tyson’s new Hot and Spicy chicken wings was a little like having adventures with Goldilocks. Some tasters said they were too hot. Others said they were too bland. But many tasters thought they were just right.

“Holy moley! Greasy and too spicy for this Texas chick,” said Tina Johnson.

Donald Clegg had a higher tolerance for spice. He said: “Newton’s First Law of Thermodynamics: There are no bad chicken wings. Still, these could be a lot spicier before I’d call them hot.”

Jenny Whittaker liked the wings just they way Tyson made them. “Spicy good. Meat is firm and falls off the bone easily. Golden orange color (would look) good on an appetizer plate with a cool dip sauce,” she said.

Overall, tasters liked them well enough to give the wings a four-star rating, out of five, for flavor. Many said they would be worthy of a spot in a Super Bowl buffet. Tasters also liked the Tyson’s Tequila Lime wings. They received 3 1/2 stars from the panel.

“Moist, tender and delicious. Don’t share with anyone. Keep them all to yourself,” suggested Larry Inman.

Johnson said she might opt for the Tequila Lime wings at the grocery store. “Here you go! Greasy and salty, but these babies are worth it. Very tasty birds.”

The wings can be baked in the oven or grilled. They’re sold in the freezer section of local stores.
