Winston’s walk ends Spokane’s long skid

Bryan Winston drew a bases-loaded walk in the 10th inning Wednesday as the Spokane RiverHawks (8-15) snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 6-5 win over the Bend Elks at Gonzaga University’s Patterson Complex.

Bend (14-9) had won seven consecutive games and was 4-0 against Spokane this West Coast Collegiate Baseball League season.

Third pitcher Jake Hiatt earned the win, allowing one single and no earned runs in three innings.

“Infielder Bryan Horst, and pitchers A.J. Proszek and Aaron Guinn will be Spokane’s representatives to Tuesday’s WCCBL All-Star game at Bellingham’s Joe Martin Field, league commissioner Jim Dietz announced.

East Division-leading Moses Lake has nine players on the team, including pitcher Michael Ratigan of Washington State. WSU pitcher Matt Way and first baseman Jim Murphy made the West squad from Corvallis.

Golf

The team of Terry Grimes, Bud Nameck, Richard Bale, Herb Genteman and professional Bob Scott holds a one-shot lead heading into today’s final round of the Bank of America Pro-Am at Indian Canyon Golf Course. The team shot a 32-under-par, 2-best-of-5 round of 112.
