Food, raffle, ugly dogs at shelter event

From Staff Reports The Spokesman-Review

Got an ugly dog? It may be a show champ.

The Kootenai Humane Society will hold an “Ugliest Dog Contest” as well as best-dressed dog and best costume contests during an open house today at the animal shelter in Hayden. The event also includes a raffle, with prizes including an overnight stay and dinner at the Coeur d’Alene Casino and two Silverwood theme park tickets.

Hot dogs will be served, and a dog trainer will be available to answer questions.

The open house is an opportunity for the public to see the changes the organization has made at the shelter, Executive Director Phil Morgan said.

In addition, hundreds of dogs and cats will be available for adoption. Adoption costs range from $45 to $95. All animals have been spayed or neutered and have been temperament tested, and all have had all their shots and had a registered microchip inserted.

Today’s event is from noon to 4 p.m. The shelter is at the end of Ramsey Road near the Coeur d’Alene Airport.
