New Life Assembly relocating during remodeling

Sunday is the last day the congregation of New Life Assembly of God Church will meet in the building that has been their home at 11515 E. Broadway Ave. The final service will begin at 10:45 a.m.

The building on Broadway has been sold and the group will meet temporarily at its youth center at 11410 E. Sprague Ave. while the new location is being remodeled, a process that is expected to take two to three months. The church will lease the former Rosauers store at Sprague and Gillis.

“We were running out of space,” said associate pastor Jason Kiesel of the Broadway building. Parking was an issue, and the church was surrounded by homes, making expansion difficult. “We tried doing two services at the old building, but it just didn’t fit the personality of the church.”

Church members began looking at options last year and for a while considered buying land to build a new church. “We quickly learned, with today’s construction economy, that remodeling existing commercial property would be the best bang for our buck,” Kiesel said.

The church has about 350 members, and the new location should seat 800 comfortably. The remodeling project is being paid for with the proceeds from the sale of the church on Broadway, which has been sold to the Community of Christ Church. “It’s really going to be a wonderful facility.”

The new location is still owned by Rosauers, so the church will lease it for now. But the ultimate goal will be to purchase the building at some point in the future, Kiesel said. Worship at the new location will begin at 9:30 and 10:45 a.m. on Sundays beginning July 22.
