Suspect held in 5 burglaries

A man was arrested Friday night in connection with five garage burglaries in the 5800 block of North Birch Place, a Spokane Police spokeswoman said.

Ricky R. Griffis, 22, faces five counts of second-degree burglary and one count of second-degree malicious mischief after police found most of the reported stolen property – tools, lawn equipment and bicycles – at Griffis’ friend’s house, one block north on Maple Street, said Officer Theresa Fuller.

Authorities started receiving theft reports at about 4:45 p.m. and arrested Griffis just before 6:30 p.m. Fuller said investigators were not sure whether all the thefts occurred that afternoon, because police received a call about a prowler in the neighborhood at about 1 a.m. Friday.
