The Spokesman-Review

Gonzaga’s Matt Bouldin scored eight points, including a crucial late jumper, to help the USA Basketball U19 World Championship Team (3-0) defeat host Serbia 82-78 on Saturday in Novi Sad, Serbia.

The Americans carried a 64-50 lead into the final quarter, but Serbia rallied with a 9-0 run to tie the game at 70-all with 4:48 left. The squads exchanged buckets, and with just less than 2 minutes left, USA’s Stephen Curry drained a 3-pointer to put his team up 78-75.

After free throws on the other end, Curry drove the lane, but this time couldn’t get his shot to fall. Bouldin grabbed the offensive rebound and connected on a short jumper with less than a minute to play to put his team up for good. Curry led the USA team with 19 points and six rebounds. Bouldin also grabbed five boards in the game.

The Americans advance to the second round at the top of Group B and will meet Lithuania on Monday, Brazil on Tuesday and France on Wednesday.
