Bellingham edges RiverHawks

Dick Bargewell singled and doubled and drove in two runs to lead the Bellingham Bells to a 4-2 West Coast Collegiate Baseball League victory over the Spokane RiverHawks Sunday at Joe Martin Field in Bellingham.

Kirby Morsching (2-4) scattered eight hits and two runs over six innings to gain the victory. He struck out three and walked none.

Spokane’s Cory Powell (0-5) gave up two earned runs in 4 2/3 innings. Spokane relievers Travis Hill, Matt Crowe and Tommy Tribbett combined to pitch 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief with four strikeouts.

Spokane (9-18) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on Tyson Van Winkle’s run-scoring double, scoring Michael Hur.

Bargewell tied it with an RBI single in the bottom of the third after two Spokane errors.

The Bells (11-16) took the lead with an unearned run in the fourth and made it 4-1 with Bargewell’s run-scoring double and Zach Miller’s RBI single in the fifth inning.

Spokane scored its final run on an RBI groundout by Phil Boscarino in the sixth inning.

The RiverHawks host Moses Lake Thursday at Avista Stadium. Game time is 7 p.m.

Golf

Four players qualified for the season-ending Sterling Savings Bank Shoot-out at this weekend’s Prairie Falls Amateur Tournament.

Dallas Blood (second flight, 132 net), Bob Mackie (first flight, 129), Clyde Blood (low net of field, 132) and Chuck Green (championship flight, 136 gross) will compete at the Shoot-out on Sept. 24 at The Coeur d’Alene Public Golf Course. Green was the overall winner.
