Huckleberries: Local celebs just as notable as bigwigs

And To Think I Saw It On Sherman Avenue (Wednesday): Former City Councilwoman Nancy Sue Wallace shopping for a gift for her soon-to-be daughter-in-law at Johannes Jewelers … Mayor Sandi Bloem rushing back to her non-AC jewelry shop in capris and a short-sleeve blouse after running home for an air-conditioner fix … Hired hand Katie Jiminez welcoming customers to the new Moose Market (“Gourmet Everyday”) in the old Wilson Pharmacy at 4th & Sherman and telling a customer that the new upscale convenience store and deli offers high-end items with a laid-back Northwest attitude. Quoth: We carry “hoity-toity items but we’re not hoity-toity” … A Berry Picker running off to check out the new carpet at the Coeur d’Alene Resort after reading that some Huckleberries Online commenters didn’t like it … Two men at Java on Sherman discussing The Terraces on Lake Coeur d’Alene, Duane Hagadone’s upscale condo project. One claimed the condos look like a Bose radio from the lake … Hanging pots of flowers doing well despite the heat … But I didn’t see George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Lance Armstrong or any of the other rich and famous who’ve reportedly been spotted in downtown Coeur d’Alene this summer. Mebbe next time.

“The Huckleberries Online Book Club kicks off today with a discussion of Sara Gruen’s “Water for Elephants,” moderated by CdA Librarian Bette Ammon. You’re welcome to join us.
