It’s time for the members of Spokane Valley United Methodist Church to celebrate. An anonymous donor gave the church more than $62,000 to pay off its mortgage early.

The gift, announced in April, allowed the church to pay off the debt for a remodeling project completed in 2002 two years earlier than planned.

The congregation will celebrate with a mortgage burning party from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the church, 115 N. Raymond Road. The gathering will include a potluck dinner. The church will provide the main dish; those attending are asked to bring a vegetable dish, salad or dessert to share.

Handbell concert

The Tintinnabula and Harmony Bells handbell choirs of Millwood Presbyterian Church will perform in concert at 4 p.m. Sunday at the church, 3223 N. Marguerite Road. The choirs will play a wide variety of music, including some from the movie “Aladdin.” Admission is free and the public is welcome.
