Athletics 2, Giants 0: At San Francisco, Marco Scutaro homered to break up a scoreless game in the eighth inning and Oakland shut out the Giants for the second straight day, completing a three-game sweep of its Bay Area rivals.

Diamondbacks 5, Red Sox 1: At Phoenix, Randy Johnson allowed one run in six innings and three relievers did the rest as Arizona defeated Boston to salvage the final game of a three-game series. Carlos Quentin doubled home the eventual winning run in the sixth inning.

Blue Jays 11, Dodgers 5: At Los Angeles, Roy Halladay limited the Dodgers to five hits and three runs in seven innings, and got two hits and drove in the first run of his career to lead Toronto to a victory over slumping Los Angeles.

Twins 6, Nationals 3: At Minneapolis, Torii Hunter had three hits, Jason Bartlett snapped out of a slump with two RBIs, and Minnesota beat Washington to salvage the final game of its interleague series. Boof Bonser scattered nine hits over five innings for the win.

Tigers 15, Mets 7: At Detroit, Gary Sheffield contributed to Tom Glavine’s rough day with a homer and an RBI triple, helping the Tigers beat up New York and win the series. Glavine gave up nine earned runs for just the second time, matching the career-high total he allowed eight years ago.

Reds 1, Indians 0 (12): At Cincinnati, Alex Gonzalez hit a run-scoring single in the 12th to give the Reds a win over Cleveland. The Indians’ C.C. Sabathia, bidding to become the majors’ first 10-game winner, stifled the Reds through nine innings on three hits and one walk and didn’t get the win.

White Sox 6, Astros 3: At Chicago, Mark Buehrle pitched eight strong innings for his 100th career victory and the White Sox beat Houston to snap a five-game losing streak. Paul Konerko had three hits, including a solo homer for Chicago.

Rockies 6, Orioles 1: At Baltimore, Ryan Spilborghs homered twice and drove in a career-high six runs, Jason Hirsh threw a complete-game five-hitter for his first win in nine starts and Colorado defeated the Orioles.

Royals 17, Phillies 5: At Kansas City, Mo., Mark Grudzielanek homered and drove in five runs and the Royals exacted a tiny bit of revenge for the 1980 World Series by routing Philadelphia. Grudzielanek was 3 for 5 and tied his career-high for RBIs.

Cardinals 9, Angels 6: At St. Louis, Albert Pujols had two home runs and five RBIs to lead the Cardinals past Los Angeles. It was his 19th career multiple homer game and his second in eight days.

Devil Rays 9, Marlins 5: At Miami, Tampa Bay rookie Andy Sonnanstine struck out 10, including seven straight at one point, to earn a memorable first career victory. Brendan Harris had a career-high five RBIs and Raul Casanova homered for the second straight day for the Devil Rays.

Yankees 13, Pirates 6: At New York, Alex Rodriguez homered twice and drove in five runs, Bobby Abreu went 4 for 4 with three RBIs and the Yankees overpowered Pittsburgh for their sixth consecutive victory.

Brewers 9, Rangers 6 (12): At Arlington, Texas, Geoff Jenkins hit a three-run homer in the 12th inning and Milwaukee stopped a three-game losing streak, beating Texas. Prince Fielder homered for Milwaukee.
