Housing project proposed along Newman Lake, Lakeview Road

A 39-lot clustered housing development is being proposed along Newman Lake and Lakeview Road.

It is one of three large-acreage developments recently proposed across the county.

S&L Properties, based in Spokane Valley, is seeking a rural clustered development for the 39 homes on 390 acres at Newman Lake. The zoning requires a minimum of 10 acres per home, but the homes may be clustered on not more than 30 percent of the site under county zoning rules.

The project is pending the developer submitting more information to county officials prior to it being scheduled for a public hearing, said Tammy Jones of the county’s planning office. She said the project is under shoreline review, but the development will be far enough from the lake not to require a shoreline permit, she said. The applicant is Karl Wilkinson.

In other applications, Granite Investments is seeking to develop 45 light industrial lots on 114 acres of land along Flint Road south of U.S. Highway 2 in the Airway Heights area. A binding site plan for the project is awaiting more detailed drainage plans.

Another housing development north of Spokane would create 13 home sites of 10 acres each on 130 acres of land zoned for small tract agriculture on Dahl Road northeast of U.S. Highway 395. The 10-acre lots are a county minimum for that zone. The applicant is Stan McDaniel of Newport.
