Four laboratory workers receive minor radiation
RICHLAND – Four Pacific Northwest National Laboratory workers received minor radioactive contamination Thursday while doing research in a lab, a spokesman said.
The workers were evaluated at the scene, “cleaned up and sent home,” said lab spokesman Greg Koller. They were not taken to a hospital.
“This kind of radioactivity does not penetrate the skin,” Koller said.
The workers had been testing the accuracy of radiation detection monitors, Koller said, and had been using a sealed radioactive source, which leaked.
