Religion notebook: Churches plan summer events for children

More Valley churches are finalizing plans for summer programs for children.

The Spokane Valley Assembly of God Church will launch its Summer Sizzle program for kids and adults on Wednesday. The program will be offered at 7 p.m. Wednesdays through Aug. 29 with the exception of July 4. Each week will include games, snacks and Bible lessons for kids and Bible study for adults.

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church will host an “Avalanche Ranch” vacation Bible school session June 25-29. The sessions will be held daily from 9 a.m. to noon. Children in pre-kindergarten through the fifth grade may attend. There will be games, Bible stories and fun activities.

Retirement celebration

The Rev. Ian Robertson will officially retire from his position as senior pastor at the Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene during special gatherings on Sunday. His son, the Rev. Kevin Robertson, will preach during a special combined worship service at 10 a.m. Sunday at the church, 15515 E. 20th Ave. A community service will begin at 6 p.m. Sunday followed by a reception at 7 p.m.

Robertson has been a pastor for 48 years. He will continue to be the president of the Spokane Valley Ministerial Association and be working to establish the Spokane Valley HUB as a regional sports center and home for Upward Basketball.

Start your engines

A Father’s Day car show will fill the parking lot of the Spokane Valley United Methodist Church on Sunday from 10 to 11 a.m. All are welcome to attend and check out the display. The church is at 115 N. Raymond Road.

Mission fund raiser

Opportunity Christian Fellowship will host a craft fair and parking lot sale today to raise money for an upcoming mission trip to the Dominican Republic. The sale will be from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the church, 1313 S. Pines Road.

Guest speaker

New Life Assembly of God Church will host guest speaker Aaron Haskins during the 10:45 a.m. worship service Sunday. Haskins is the executive director for the Coalition of Community Development and Renewal in Seattle and is the former National Impact Director for Promise Keepers. The church is at 11515 E. Broadway Ave.

Gospel Concert

Christian singer Hilary Weeks will perform in concert at 7 p.m. today at University High School, 12420 E. 32nd Ave. Tickets are $10 and $15, available by calling 325-SEAT or online at www.ticketswest.com.

Summer schedule

Opportunity Presbyterian Church will switch to its summer worship schedule on Sunday. The church will now begin its worship service at 9:30 a.m. each week. The church is at 202 N. Pines Road.
