Struggling Orioles fire Perlozzo

Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

BALTIMORE – Sam Perlozzo was fired as manager of the Baltimore Orioles on Monday with the last-place team in the midst of an eight-game losing streak.

Perlozzo was told of the decision during a 20-minute discussion with executive vice president Mike Flanagan and vice president Jim Duquette.

“He said how disappointed he was that he wasn’t going to be here to turn it around,” Flanagan said. “He felt he made the right decisions but had the wrong reaction at the end. He understood we had to make a change and go off in different direction.”

Bullpen coach Dave Trembley, who has served as a minor league manager in the organization, will be the interim manager starting today.
