Reader Food Panel: Instant oatmeal fairly tasty but the texture pasty

By The Spokesman-Review

Oatmeal has a lot of things going for it. It’s cheap, easy to prepare and relatively healthy. It’s a wonder people don’t have it for breakfast every day.

Well, there is that whole texture thing.

Quaker’s Oatmeal Crunch combines the utility of instant oatmeal with the texture of cold cereal. In each box, you’ll find six packets of instant oatmeal along with six packets of “oat clusters,” crunchy little nuggets of rolled oats and sugar.

The Apple & Cinnamon and Maple & Brown Sugar flavors earned a solidly average rating of three stars each. Some liked the added crunch, others were still put off by the texture, which Larry Inman described as “pasty.”

The price tag of $3.89 generated a similar amount of enthusiasm, and earned both flavors another three stars for value.

Quaker Oatmeal Crunch is also available in Mixed Berry and Magicolor Cinnamon flavors, the latter featuring “magically appearing colors.”
