Florence Irene Hart celebrated her 109th birthday on Wednesday. She was born June 27, 1898, in Los Angeles. She has been a resident of Spokane for 19 years.

Hart met her husband, Harold, on a blind date, and they were married in 1923. He died in 1986.

She says that being a home decorator and gardener, along with knitting and making braided rugs have been her most rewarding life achievements.

Hart attributes her positive attitude and keeping busy to living a long and healthy life. She says that eating properly and family outings have helped, too.

She says her most memorable moments in her past 109 years have been the San Francisco earthquake in 1906 and the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

Hart has two sons, Russell Hart, Chattaroy, and the late Ted Hart. She has five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
