Holocaust writer will speak at Whitworth College

Whitworth College, 300 W. Hawthorne Road, will present John Roth Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Robinson Teaching Theater of Weyerhaeuser Hall.

Roth is a philosophy professor at Claremont McKenna College in California and is the founding director of the college’s Center for the Study of the Holocaust, Genocide and Human Rights.

An author of more than 40 books dealing with the Holocaust, Roth will speak on the topic, “Forgiveness? Reflections on Ethics after the Holocaust.”

Auditions

Jesus is the Answer Church, 1803 E. Desmet Ave., will present a poetry praise, “Stir Up the Gifts II,” on April 22 at 4 p.m.

Adults, young adults and kids are invited to audition for the program.

Auditions for poetry, instrumentals and skits will be Tuesday and next Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. and March 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Auditions for silent praises, singers (both solo and groups) and miming will be March 12, 13 and 15 from 1 to 4 p.m. and March 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

All auditions will be at the church.

Lenten programs and study groups

Manito United Methodist Church, 3220 S. Grand Blvd., will present the 1927 movie “King of Kings” Saturday at 6 p.m.

The film is part of the church’s Lenten Film and Discussion series.

The Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave., will present a weekly Lenten program every Wednesday through March 28.

Worship will start the evening at 6 p.m. with a potluck dinner to follow in the Great Hall and presentations beginning at 7 p.m.

Some of the themes for the presentations include “Times of Yearning, Practices of Faith,” “Sabbath,” “Discernment,” “Hospitality” and “Forgiveness.”

Heritage Congregational Church, 1801 E. 29th Ave., will present a devotion and family movie, “The Ride,” on Wednesday.

The evening will begin with a soup and bread supper at 5:30.

Unity Church of Truth activities

Unity Church of Truth, 2900 S. Bernard St., will present a Pet Healing and Communication Workshop Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m.

Those attending should not bring their pets, but they will learn to communicate with them.

The cost is $40.

The church is also presenting a Love and Logic Workshop on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. starting March 7.

The cost is a weekly donation and $10 for the course book.

Thrift shop sale

Windfall, 1024 S. Perry St., will present a bag sale to benefit the programs of the Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist today and Friday from noon to 4 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 3:30 p.m.

A bag of clothing and bedding is $5, and everything else in the store is 50 percent off, with the exception of books and jewelry.
