Idaho Vandals

Today: at Hawaii, 9 p.m. Pacific

Saturday: at San Jose State, 3 p.m.

Outlook: The Vandals hope to repeat history to avoid making history. Idaho knocked off Hawaii on Clyde Johnson’s last-second shot last month, giving the Vandals their only WAC victory. San Jose State and Idaho will meet Saturday to close the regular season and Tuesday to open the WAC tournament. The Vandals, at 3-24, are in the midst of one of the worst seasons in school history. The 1911-12 team went 1-13, and the 1930-31 crew was 3-16.

Gonzaga Bulldogs

Sunday: Semifinals of West Coast Conference tournament vs. opponent yet to be determined, 6:30 p.m. in University of Portland’s Chiles Center (ESPN2).

Monday: Sunday’s semifinal winners in finals of WCC tournament, 6 p.m. in University of Portland’s Chiles Center (ESPN).

Outlook: Conventional wisdom suggests the Bulldogs need to win the WCC tournament if they hope to extend their run of eight consecutive NCAA tournament appearances. As the WCC’s outright regular-season champions, the Zags have earned the No. 1 seed into the WCC tournament, along with a bye into Sunday’s semifinals, where they will face either No. 8 Pepperdine, No. 5 San Diego or No. 4 San Francisco. GU swept all three possible semifinal foes during the regular season.

WSU Cougars

Today: UCLA, 7:30 p.m., FSN

Saturday: USC, 4 p.m., FSN

Outlook: The Cougars close out their regular season with home games against the second- and 23rd-ranked teams in the nation, having beaten USC and lost to UCLA in the first week of Pac-10 play in December. WSU can still win a share of the conference championship with two wins and a UCLA loss on Saturday at Washington, but more realistically the Cougars are playing to hang onto the second seed in the conference tournament next week. A win in either game would secure that slot, while two losses would give the Trojans the second slot and push WSU down to third.
