Auction will raise funds for camp scholarships

Despite the nip in the air and the snow on the ground, it’s not too early to start thinking about church summer camps. Four Lutheran churches will host a Lutherhaven Campership Auction today at University High School to pay for camp scholarships.

Doors open at 4 p.m. at the school, at 12420 E. 32nd Ave. There will be silent and oral bidding, plus a dinner catered by Longhorn Barbecue. The dinner is by donation. Items up for bid include Gonzaga basketball tickets, Keith Urban concert tickets, quilts, a ride in a Black Hawk helicopter, hotel packages and gourmet dinners.

The churches hosting the event are Good Shepherd Lutheran, Christ Lutheran, Holy Trinity Lutheran and Calvary Lutheran.

VeggieTales

Redeemer Lutheran Church will host a free showing of the new VeggieTales movie “Moe and the Big Exit” at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. The movie’s official release date is Tuesday. Refreshments will be served. The church is at 3606 S. Schafer Road.

Movie nights

Spokane Valley United Methodist Church is continuing its free movie nights each Saturday in March. Showings of the family-friendly movies begin at 6:30 p.m. each week. Popcorn will be served but people should bring their own beverages.

Today’s film is “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.” Other scheduled films are “Hidalgo” next Saturday, “Cool Runnings” on March 24 and “Sky High” on March 31. The church is at 115 N. Raymond Road. Call the church at 924-7262 for more information.
