Post-Holocaust ethics

John Roth, an internationally recognized scholar in the field of Holocaust and genocide studies, will present a lecture on “Forgiveness? Reflections on Ethics After the Holocaust” at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Whitworth College.

Roth is the founding director of Claremont McKenna College’s Center for the Study of the Holocaust, Genocide and Human Rights.

He is the author of several books, including “After-Words: Post-Holocaust Struggles with Forgiveness, Reconciliation, Justice.”

The lecture will be in the Weyerhaeuser Hall Robinson Teaching Theater on the Whitworth campus. Admission is free.

Katrina volunteers report

Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, 1926 W. Chelan Ave., will host guest speakers Dave and Becky Knapp at 11:45 a.m. Sunday.

The couple recently spent a week as volunteers in New Orleans’ Ninth Ward.

Spiritual retreat

The Coeur d’Alene Men’s Group is sponsoring its eighth annual Creation Spirituality-based retreat March 16-19 at Camp N-Sid-Sen on Lake Coeur d’Alene.

The retreat, which focuses on personal spirituality and the creation of community, will feature Dominican Brother Joseph Kilikevice, Quan Yin Lyn Williams and Karolyne Rogers.

Activities will include art as meditation, periods of silence, and sacred dance. The cost is $200 or $250, depending on accommodations.

Orthodox bake sale

The congregation of St. John’s Orthodox Church in Post Falls is hosting a bake sale with a twist. Offerings include Greek, Russian and Middle Eastern specialties such as baklava, kolachi and mamoul.

Orders may be submitted by mail or phone. The deadline is March 18.

Orders of $75 or more in the Post Falls and Coeur d’Alene area will be delivered for free on March 30. Other orders may be picked up at the church, 4718 E. Horsehaven, on March 31 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Spirit of St. Patrick

Catholic Charities will host a Spirit of St. Patrick party Friday to benefit St. Margaret’s Shelter for women and children.

The gathering will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Mukogawa Fort Wright Commons, 4000 W. Randolph Road. There will be Irish food and drink, prizes and dancing.

The cost is $45 per person. Reservations are required.

Sacred music

The choir of Wisconsin Lutheran College will perform at 7 p.m. next Saturday at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 6905 N. Country Homes Blvd.

The concert will be mostly an a cappella performance of sacred music from the 16th through 20th centuries. Featured composers include Bach, Mozart, Rachmaninoff and Whitacre.

Admission is free.
