Maple Leafs rally to defeat Devils

Yanic Perreault, Alex Steen and Jeff O’Neill scored in the shootout and the Toronto Maple Leafs denied Martin Brodeur his 40th win with a 4-3 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Friday night at East Rutherford, N.J.

Sabres 8, Canadiens 5: At Buffalo, N.Y., Michael Ryan scored his first two goals of his NHL career and Thomas Vanek also had two goals to help give Buffalo the victory over Montreal.

Hurricanes 3, Penguins 2: At Raleigh, N.C., Scott Walker scored two goals, Cam Ward made 22 saves and Carolina got a much-needed victory by beating Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh second-year center Sidney Crosby became the youngest NHL player to reach 200 career points when he scored a goal in the first period.

Blue Jackets 3, Stars 2 (SO): At Dallas, Fredrik Norrena stopped all three of Dallas’ shootout attempts and Jason Chimera converted in the first round to send Columbus to a victory over Dallas.

Ducks 3, Sharks 1: At Anaheim, Calif., Andy McDonald had two assists and Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 30 saves to help lead Anaheim to a victory over San Jose.

Red Wings 6, Blackhawks 2: At Detroit, Robert Lang had a goal and three assists, and Nicklas Lidstrom got his 200th goal and two assists to lead Detroit to a win over Chicago.

Pavel Datsyuk added three assists for Detroit.

Chris Osgood made 18 saves.

Thrashers 4, Senators 2: At Atlanta, Slava Kozlov scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period, and Eric Belanger had two goals to help Atlanta beat Ottawa.

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Tomas Kaberle was taken off the ice on a stretcher after being blind-sided on a late hit by New Jersey tough guy Cam Janssen in the second period at East Rutherford N.J. He was alert after being taken off the ice and was taken to a hospital for observation. … Red Wings goalie Dominik Hasek didn’t dress for the game against the Chicago Blackhawks in Detroit because of some tenderness in his thigh. … New York Rangers defenseman Fedor Tyutin will be out three to four weeks because of a sprained ligament in his left knee.
