Fire District 8 – Commissioners voted to place a regular EMS levy lid lift on the May 15 ballot to restore the tax rate to .50 cents. The present rate is about .37 cents. Commissioners also signed an agreement with Spokane County to allow the district to continue performing fire code inspections. The district has received an Assistance to Firefighters grant from the Department of Homeland Security of nearly $38,000 to purchase thermal imaging cameras and wildland fire shelters. University SCOPE – The SCOPE station at 15th and University is being updated. The painting is complete and new carpet will be installed. Volunteers also discussed plans to have a fundraiser at the Sprague Interstate 90 rest stop July 24 through 26. Two new members attended the meeting. (Source: Co-Secretary Alice Domrese)
