Achievements: Ian Truscott attains Eagle rank
“Ian Truscott was recently awarded the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest award given in the Boy Scouts. Truscott, a member of Troop 202 in Coeur d’Alene, is the son of Glenn and Roberta Truscott of Coeur d’Alene. For his project Truscott built a warming hut on the Fourth of July Pass cross country ski trail system.
“U.S. Navy Aviation Warfare Systems Operator 2nd Class Timothy Hines Jr. was recently awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for outstanding achievement as a rescue swimmer. He saved two crewmen of a sinking ship off the Horn of Africa last year. Hines, who has been in the service since 2003, is the son of Timothy and Susan Hines of Medical Lake. He is a homeschool graduate.
“Senior Brittany Birkett was named to the first trimester honor roll at University High School. She holds a 4.0 grade-point average.
“Several area residents have received scholarships for the 2006-2007 academic year at Eastern Washington University.
Heatherann Franz was awarded a $1,000 Bradfield Family Scholarship. Franz, a 1993 graduate of Lewis and Clark High School, is the daughter of Sue Edminston of Spokane.
Shadbreon Gatson was awarded a $1,000 Washington Mutual Scholarship. Gatson, the son of Mike and Florida Gatson of Spokane, is a 2001 graduate of Southwood High School of Shreveport, La.
Donald Goodwin was awarded a $3,500 Phil Grub Music Scholarship. Goodwin, a 1991 graduate of Lewis and Clark High School, is the son of Donald and Willene Goodwin of Spokane.
Andrew Lindsay was awarded a $1,500 African American Education Program Multicultural Achievement Scholarship. Lindsay, the son of Joan Lindsay of Spokane, is a 2004 graduate of Lewis and Clark High School.
“Jacob Didesch of Spokane has been named to the fall dean’s list at Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore. Students must be in the top 10 percent of their class to be eligible for the list.
“Laura Gentili of Spokane Valley has been named to the fall dean’s list at North Idaho College. Students must hold a grade-point average of 3.75 or above to be named to the list.
“Landon DeFelice has been named to the fall dean’s list at the University of Montana. Students must hold a grade-point average of 3.5 or above to be named to the list.
“A drawing titled “Survivors” by Whitworth associate professor of art Gordon Wilson was selected for inclusion in the Northwest Art Center’s 36th annual “Americas 2000: Paper Works” exhibit. It was one of 31 works selected from nearly 600 submissions. The exhibit was held at Minot State University.
“Sam Johnson, a senior at Lewis and Clark High School, recently earned his private pilots license at Spokane Airways with the Chris Hanley Memorial Scholarship. He plans to enter a college aviation program.
“Two area students have been selected as orientation counselors for the 2007 Alive! Summer Orientation Program at Washington State University. Students are selected based on academic achievement and leadership abilities. Alison Dempsey, a 2003 graduate of University High School, is the daughter of Patricia and James Dempsey of Spokane. Alexander Haight, the son of Delorah and Brian Haight of Sandpoint, is a 2004 graduate of Sandpoint High School.

“Sarah Gospodnetich of Coeur d’Alene has been named to the fall dean’s list at Ohio Wesleyan University. Students must hold a grade-point average of 3.5 or better to be named to the list. She is the daughter of Gerald and Cristina Gospodnetich.
“Paul McDaniel, a soil scientist at the University of Idaho, was recently elected a fellow of the Soil Science Society of America. He is a professor in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and has been with the university for 16 years.
