Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

Nick Young scored 26 points, Lodrick Stewart made two of his three baskets in overtime, and Southern California rallied to beat Stanford 83-79 Thursday night in the quarterfinals of the Pac-10 men’s basketball tournament at Los Angeles.

The Trojans rallied from an 11-point second-half deficit to force overtime, and never trailed in the five-minute extra period.

Gabe Pruitt added 17 points, Taj Gibson had 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Dwight Lewis scored 10 for the third-seeded Trojans, who won their first Pac-10 tournament game since 2004.

Anthony Goods led Stanford with 19 points and five assists. Freshman Landry Fields scored a career-high 15 points and Fred Washington added 12 for the sixth-seeded Cardinal.

Stewart, USC’s second-leading scorer, made a short jumper for the first points in overtime, and the Trojans led the rest of the way.

Two foul shots by Young with 1:38 remaining made it 74-71, but Brook Lopez’s dunk 18 seconds later drew Stanford within one point. A basket by Stewart and a steal and layup by Pruitt clinched the victory. Goods and Fields made 3-pointers in the final 5 seconds to account for the final margin.

(16) Oregon 69, Arizona 50: At Los Angeles, TaJuan Porter and Aaron Brooks burned Arizona with their long-range shooting, combining for nine 3-pointers to help the Ducks beat the Wildcats in the quarterfinals of the Pac-10 tournament.

Porter, a 5-foot-6 freshman, shot 8 of 12 – including 5 of 6 from 3-point range – for 21 points.

Brooks, the Ducks’ leading scorer, had all 16 of his points in the first 13 minutes to help put Oregon ahead for good. He shot 6 of 13, including 4 of 8 from outside the arc.

The fourth-seeded Ducks have won five straight games.

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Wildcats, who have won at least 20 games in 20 consecutive seasons but struggled at times while playing one of the nation’s toughest schedules this year. Nevertheless, they’re expected to be invited to their 23rd straight NCAA tournament.
