Achievements: Three Mead High students earn Eagle Scout

Three local residents have been awarded the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest award given in Boy Scouts.

John Hausmann III, the son of John and Louanne Hausmann of Spokane, is a member of Troop 201. For his project he built a play yard and playground set for St. Luke Lutheran Church. He is a senior at Mead High School.

Jace McLaws, a student at Mead High School, is a member of Troop 99. McLaws, the son of the Brent and Angela McLaws, built a basketball hoop and play area at Camp Dart-Lo for his project.

Cody Wright, the son of Frank and Suzanne Wright, is a student at Mead High School. For his project he built storage shelves and painted a recreation area at Miryam’s House of Transition. He is a member of Troop 99.

“Daniel Copeland and Elisabeth DeLeeuw have been named as candidates for the 2007 Presidential Scholar Program. Students are selected on SAT or ACT scores, leadership and service. The two are students at St. George’s School.

“Nick Bormann of Spokane was part of a Gonzaga debate team that advanced to the final 16 in the recent Cal Invitational Debate Tournament at the University of California-Berkeley. He also placed second at the Val Browning Round Robin Tournament at Weber State University.

“Emily Calkins has been named to the fall dean’s list at Macalester College, Minn. Students must hold a grade-point average of 3.7 or above to be named to the list. She is the daughter of Beth and Eric Calkins of Spokane.

“Nicole Scheer of Pullman has been named to the fall dean’s list at Susquehanna University, Pa. Students must hold a grade-point average of 3.4 or above to be named to the list.

“Bergan Anderson of Spokane has been named to the fall dean’s list at the University of Washington.

“Eight local residents were named to the fall military program dean’s list at South Illinois University-Carbondale. Students are listed by their hometown.

“University of Idaho scientist Lee Vierling was recently awarded the Heady Professorship of Rangeland Ecology.

“The following students have been named to the first semester honor roll at North Idaho Christian School.

3.99-3.75 grade point-average: John Andersen and Rachel Malin.

3.74-3.25 g.p.a.: Cari Canale, Miranda Corbin, Britta Forsythe, Kelsey Haag and Jake Schmidt.

Sophomores

4.0 grade-point average: Jackson Cate.

3.99-3.75 g.p.a.: Brandon Culpepper, Josh Hardy and Janelle Kenney.

3.74-3.25 g.p.a.: Hannah Abravanel, Jarin Bressler, Pailey Hobson, Josh Jenkins, Annie Johnson, Jacob Massey, Taylor McCaslin, Kristin McCauley and Alexis Thompson.

4.0 grade-point average: Hye Soo Park.
