River Ridge girls win first championship

Courtney Blume scored 14 points and Santia Sanders added nine points to lead River Ridge to its first girls State 2A championship with a 40-25 win over Tumwater in the tournament finale Saturday night in Tacoma.

Blume scored 12 points in the first half, eight in the second quarter alone, as the Hawks (25-2) took a 21-10 halftime lead.

The two teams split a pair of games during the regular season, each team winning a game by two points. River Ridge won the Evergreen Conference title, while Tumwater (19-8) was second.

Tumwater’s Ashley Andrews, the Evergreen League MVP, scored just eight points.

2A boys

Brady Bomber scored 20 points, Steven Webb had 14, and Lynden (25-2) ended the perfect season of Mark Morris (26-1) with a 62-44 win in the State 2A championship game in Tacoma.

3A girls

Stephanie Wilber scored 16 points, Nichole Jackson added 15 points, and Auburn Riverside (27-2) won its first State 3A title with a 56-46 win over Chief Sealth (25-4) in Seattle.

3A boys

O’Dea (25-5) rolled to a 56-31 win over Bainbridge (25-4) in the State 3A title game in Seattle

All-star games

Aaron Weis (Liberty High) had a double-double – 14 points, 11 rebounds – to lead the boys Bi-County All-Stars to a 102-76 victory over the Whitman County All-Stars at Harrington (Wash.) High School. Weis was named MVP of the game

Also at Harrington, MVP Maria Rustemeyer (Sprague-Harrington) tossed in 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the girls Whitman County All-Stars to an 81-75 win over the Bi-County All-Stars.
