Party, safety workshop planned at East Central

A St. Patrick’s Day party and a “Staying Safe” workshop are scheduled at the East Central Community Center, 500 S. Stone St.

The St. Patrick’s event will be Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is intended for adults 50 and over.

It includes a lunch of corned beef, cabbage, potatoes and shamrock milkshakes, and Irish music and decorations. The event is free, but the suggested donation for lunch is $3.

On March 29, the center will present a free safety workshop. The event includes a presentation by police officer Brenda Yates on topics related to protecting identity and avoiding fraud, drugs, gangs and property crime.

The event is for informational purposes only. It is designed for adults age 50 and older but open to all ages.

A senior nutrition lunch will be available during the workshop for a suggested donation of $2.50. The menu includes Spanish meatballs, rice, vegetables, beets, rye bread and spiced pears.
