Kevin Durant had 27 points and eight rebounds to lead the Longhorns to a victory over the Aggies.

Freshman classmate D.J. Augustine had 19 points and seven assists, and sophomore A.J. Abrams added 16 for Texas.

5 USC (24-11) 77

12 Arkansas (21-14) 60

Taj Gibson had 18 points and eight rebounds to lift the Trojans to a victory over the Razorbacks.

Nick Young scored 20 points for USC, which won in its first appearance in the tournament since 2002.

MIDWEST REGION

At Chicago

1 Florida (30-5) 112

16 Jackson State (21-14) 69

Joakim Noah had 17 points and 12 rebounds, Al Horford added 15 points and 16 boards, and Lee Humphrey sparked a huge run with four 3-pointers in the first 5 minutes of the second half to lead the Gators past the Tigers.

Chris Richard scored 17 points for the Tigers.

9 Purdue (22-11) 72

8 Arizona (20-11) 63

Carl Landry powered the Boilermakers with 21 points and 13 rebounds, while Chris Kramer added 16 points to lead Purdue past the Wildcats.

2 Wisconsin (30-5) 76

15 Texas A&M-CC (26-7) 63

The Badgers overcame an 18-point deficit to beat the Islanders.

Kammron Taylor, scoreless at the break, finished with 24 points.

Wisconsin also clamped down its defense on the Islanders, who began playing basketball in the 1999-2000 season.

10 Georgia Tech (20-12) 63

The Runnin’ Rebels won an NCAA tournament game for the first time in 16 years, beating the Yellow Jackets behind 19 points each from Michael Umeh and Wendell White.

At Spokane

14 Miami (Ohio) (18-15) 56

Aaron Brooks scored 18 points and the Ducks held off the RedHawks.

The pesky RedHawks had a chance to tie it late, but Michael Bramos’ fallaway 3-point attempt bounced off the front of the rim.

11 Winthrop (29-4) 74

6 Notre Dame (24-8) 64

Craig Bradshaw scored 24 points and Torrell Martin added 20 and a career-high 11 rebounds as the Eagles beat the hallowed Irish.

The Eagles, who had been 0-6 in previous tournament tries, blew all of their 20-point lead in the second half before surging in the final 2 minutes.

SOUTH REGION

At New Orleans

With the shooting of Chris Douglas-Roberts and the inside presence of Joey Dorsey and Robert Dozier, the Tigers made it 23 straight wins by beating the Mean Green.

7 Nevada (29-4) 77

10 Creighton (22-11) 71

With Wolf Pack star Nick Fazekas off his game, Marcelus Kemp capped a 27-point performance with nine points in overtime to lift Nevada to a victory over the Blue Jays.

Nate Funk led Creighton with 23 points.

At Columbus, Ohio

4 Virginia (21-10) 84

13 Albany (23-10) 57

J.R. Reynolds scored 28 points and Sean Singletary 23 as the Cavaliers defeated the Great Danes.

Reynolds made his first seven shots – four of them from behind the arc – and went 7 of 9 overall in the first half, piling up 23 points in only 17 minutes.

12 Long Beach State (24-8) 86

Chris Lofton led the way with 25 points as the Volunteers set off some offensive fireworks to beat the 49ers – matching the most points scored by a team in a first-round NCAA tournament game.

WEST REGION

At Chicago

The fast-breaking Jayhawks ran out to a 25-point halftime lead and routed the Purple Eagles.

Mario Chalmers led Kansas – making its 18th straight and 36th overall appearance in the NCAA tournament – with 19 points.

8 Kentucky (22-11) 67

9 Villanova (22-11) 58

Randolph Morris finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds, and the Wildcats flexed their muscle in the second half for a victory over Nova.

Scottie Reynolds, Big East Rookie of the Year, came up big in his first NCAA tournament appearance with 23 points for Villanova.

Reserve forward Tony Boyle scored a career-high 14 points in the second half, including one banked-in free throw, as the Salukis matched their school record for wins with a victory over the Crusaders.

5 Virginia Tech (24-11) 54

12 Illinois (23-12) 52

After trailing by as many as 13, the Hokies beat the Illini on Deron Washington’s banked runner in the final minute.

Illinois led by 10 with just more than 4 minutes left, but didn’t score in the last 4:28.
