Spring break brings plenty of kid camps

Spring break is coming up, which is usually preceded by parents searching for activities to keep kids entertained and out of trouble. There are a couple of activity oriented camps coming up in addition to the more traditional camps for elementary students run by School District No. 81.

•Kids age 5 to 12 can head to the Corbin Art Center for a Spring Break camp that focuses on a new activity each day. Topics include junior sleuth, clay works, wacky critters, crafts and Egyptomania. Sessions run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 2 through 6 at the center, located at 507 W. Seventh Ave.

Parents can sign their kids up for the whole week or only one day. The cost is $29 per day. Some of the sessions will get messy, so dress kids appropriately. They will also need to bring a sack lunch. Registration is required. Call (509) 625-6677 for more information.

•Another option is the Spring Break Claymation Camp offered by Tincan at the East Central Community Center, 500 S. Stone St. Teens ages 13 to 18 will create their own claymation movie and will learn digital recording and editing. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily from April 2 through 6. The cost is $135 and scholarships are available. Call (509) 216-3451 or visit www.tincan.org to register.

•Specialized Needs Recreation will hold a Spring Break day camp April 2 through 6 at Sorensen Elementary in Coeur d’Alene. The camp will offer community outings, crafts and games for youth ages 4 to 21 with special needs. Sessions will be held daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Transportation will be available from the former Tidyman’s in Post Falls, now the Trading Company, at 1501 E. Seltice Way. Pick-up will be at 8:30 a.m. and drop-off will be at 3:30 p.m. Participants must have a sack lunch every day except April 2. The cost is $10 per day and scholarships are available. Call (208) 755-6781 or (208) 769-2317 for more information or to register.
