Holy Family seeks more parking space

Holy Family Hospital is holding a public meeting tonight on a proposal to convert the land-use designation for a block of property near the hospital from multifamily to a mixed-use commercial designation.

The meeting will be at 6 p.m. at the hospital’s health education center in Room 1 on the lower level. The meeting will consider potential impacts on traffic with the conversion of the property to other uses.

The block is bounded by Central Avenue on the north, Addison Street on the east, Columbia Avenue on the south and Lidgerwood Street on the west. The hospital is seeking additional space for parking.

Holy Family’s request is incorporated into a proposed amendment for a previously designated employment center district created by the city several years ago at the hospital and surrounding properties.

Elsewhere, Gonzaga University has applied with the city to clear and grade property near Boone Avenue and Superior Street south of Mission Park. The proposal calls for turning the property into recreation fields for the university and possibly for parking. The site is 3.5 acres.

Near the Spokane County Courthouse, a property owner is seeking a zone change to increase allowed building heights from the current 35-foot limit to a 150-foot limit.

For several years, Marcus DeWood has been seeking to develop a large portion of a block of property just west of the Courthouse. Two years ago, he unsuccessfully asked the City Council for the taller building height to erect an office tower with parking.

The property is bounded by Cedar Street on the west, Mallon Avenue on the north, Adams Street on the east and Broadway Avenue on the south.

A public meeting was held earlier this month in the West Central neighborhood on the application.

Also on the North Side, developer Rod V. Plese has applied for a preliminary plat to develop seven acres for 16 homes in the 2100 block of west Cascade Way. The property is owned by Five Mile Heights LLC.

On the South Side, HRH Holdings of Toronto has applied for a preliminary plat to create 43 lots on 19 acres. To be known as Huber’s Bluff, the land is at the northwest end of Lincoln Way adjacent to the Eagle Ridge subdivision.
