Area roundup : Vandals seventh after second day

The University of Idaho men’s golf team fired a 4-under-par 284 Tuesday and moved up to seventh place at the Western Athletic Conference Championships in Reno, Nev.

The Vandals, with a two-day total of 580, trail host Nevada by 26 shots.

The Vandals shot 12 strokes better than Monday’s opening round. Russell Grove, Brad Tensen, Ben Weyland and Colter Kautzmann all carded 1-under 71s. Tensen is tied for 14th at 1-under 143.

Women’s basketball

North Idaho guard Kay Hill-Silva has accepted a scholarship and will play at the University of Minnesota next season.

Hill-Silva made the All-Scenic West Athletic Conference first team and was an honorable mention All-American after averaging 12 points and 5.7 rebounds per game for the Cardinals last season.

Track and field

Washington State thrower McKenzie Garberg was named the Pacific-10 Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.
