Area roundup : WSU thrower Garberg earns Pac-10 honor

Washington State thrower McKenzie Garberg was named the Pacific-10 Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.

Garberg, a junior, earned the honor after winning the shot put, discus and hammer in the Cougars’ dual with Washington last Friday.

“Jennifer Bolton of CC Spokane won the women’s Heptathlon at the NWAACC Championships at Spokane Falls Community College. Teammates Leslie Baker and Natalie Abersfeller finished second and third, respectively.

For the men, CCS’ Curtis Parrish took fourth. Collin Cram and Javin Dimmick of Lane finished first and second.

Women’s basketball

North Idaho guard Kay Hill-Silva has accepted a scholarship and will play basketball at the University of Minnesota.

College golf

The University of Idaho men’s golf team fired a 4-under-par 284 and moved up to seventh place at the Western Athletic Conference Championships in Reno, Nev.
