In brief: Voters to decide on larger council

The Spokesman-Review

Voters will decide this month whether to expand the Post Falls City Council by two new members.

The special election is 8 a.m.-8 p.m. May 22 at the National Guard Armory, 5555 Seltice Way.

Voters can cast an absentee ballot ahead of time 8 a.m.-5 p.m. May 7-21 at Post Falls City Hall, 408 N. Spokane St.

“It’s hard to go the day of the election,” City Clerk Chris Pappas said. “If you have at least a two-week window … that does help a lot of people.”

Same-day voter registration also is available, Pappas said.

With voter approval, the City Council would expand to six members. The two seats would be up for election in November.

Salary and benefits for the two new members would cost more than $35,000 a year, in addition to increased travel costs.

City officials say the expanded council would better represent the growing population.
