A new kind of cruiser is roaming the streets.

The Coffee Cruiser mobile espresso bar is a delivery service based in Spokane Valley that has owners making daily, weekly or one-time only stops to area businesses each morning. It delivers freshly brewed espresso drinks, smoothies and other coffee-shop favorites.

“We take orders over the phone and drive there and make it,” says co-owner/barista Ann Polyniak. “We don’t make it until we’re there, stopped in the parking lot, so it is fresh.”

Motorists buzzing alongside the white Chevrolet custom delivery truck take notice, too. After all, The Coffee Cruiser sports a caffeine-laden logo of a hot rod yellow cup-on-wheels, complete with painted flames and the company’s phone number.

“I’ve had people see us who were right next to us and call to ask about what we do,” said Polyniak. “And then they ask us to make a delivery to their business.”

Minimum order per stop is a total of $10.

Polyniak started The Coffee Cruiser with her mother Marie Bartlett in November, following their business research, vehicle investment and roasting and brewing training from the folks at Thomas Hammer of Spokane.

Prior to that, the two say their coffee experience was mostly limited to participating in the coffee-drinking phenomenon.

Polyniak and Bartlett hope to grow their business by adding area festivals, sporting events and other community activities to their schedules. Their custom truck is complete with a side panel of windows to cater to walk-up customers for such occasions. They also say they will consider an afternoon delivery service if clients are interested in an afternoon buzz with requests for such menu items as a cappuccino and Italian sodas or bagel and cookie.

For this mother-daughter team, they’ve found a business opportunity to combine work with pleasure.

“We do our hobbies together, so it was time for us to work together,” Polyniak says.

“It was either a scrapbooking store or this!” her mother added.
