Browne’s Addition spaghetti dinner planned Friday

For the last 25 years, the Browne’s Addition neighborhood has held a spaghetti dinner for the people in their community.

This year’s dinner will be held Friday from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 314 S. Spruce St.

Neighbors can meet others who live in Browne’s Addition as well as chow down on a tasty dinner.

The dinner used to be a fundraiser for the neighborhood council, but the event has grown considerably over the years, according to the Rev. Alan Eschenbacher of Emmanuel Lutheran.

Now it’s more about building the community and creating relationships between the people who live there, the church in the neighborhood and other organizations.

This year’s event will include information from the city about upcoming road construction projects planned for the neighborhood, information about the church and an inflatable bounce house for the kids.

The event will also highlight activities the neighborhood celebrates each year. The music for the evening will feature CDs from the bands that will play during the summer concert series in Coeur d’Alene Park. The concerts will be held every Thursday at 6 p.m. for nine weeks starting July 5.

It’s also a great time to promote this summer’s activities at the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture and ArtFest.

“We love our neighbors,” Eschenbacher said.

Volunteers will serve their neighbors spaghetti with a choice of meat sauce or vegetarian sauce, garlic bread, salad, and dessert.

Another lesson learned is to make enough meat-free sauce for diners with dietary restrictions or preferences, Eschenbacher said.

The event is sponsored by the Browne’s Addition Neighborhood Steering Committee, Emmanuel Lutheran and the Vintage Faith Community.

The cost to attend the dinner is a donation to cover the cost of the food. Any additional money will benefit the dinner the church holds every Tuesday night for the homeless. Any food left over will be taken to a mission downtown.
