GSL players earn top seeds into state tournament

Ferris’ Whitman Hough defeated Davis’ Abe Chang 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 in the 4A regional boys singles championship match Saturday at Kissel Park in Yakima and will advance to the state tournament as the top seed. Chang is the second seed.

Mead’s Ethan Vaughn secured the third seed after beating Lewis and Clark’s Miguel Candido 4-6, 7-5, 7-6. Candido advances to the state tournament as the fourth seed.

In boys doubles, Lewis and Clark’s Chris Martin and Nick Johnson earned the top seed after beating Ferris’ John Cadagan and Kevin Satre 7-5, 6-4 in the finals.

For the girls, Lewis and Clark’s Elise Otto beat Gonzaga Prep’s Anna Lambert 6-4, 6-0 in the championship match to claim the top seed. Lambert is the second seed to state. Ferris’ Katie Griffith earned the third seed after beating Moses Lake’s Nikki Chambers 6-2, 6-3.

In doubles, Mead’s Katrina Schwab and Britta Stime defeated LC’s Erica Ehlo and Lyndi Seidensticker 6-2, 6-3 to claim the top seed. Christina Berg and Kelsey McLauchlin earned the third seed after winning their doubles match.

The 4A state tournament begins Friday in Vancouver.

“Clarkston’s Richard Muszynski beat Medical Lake’s Max Nelson 6-0, 6-2 in the championship match of the District 7 2A regional tournament at Clarkston and will advance to the state tournament as the top seed.

In girls singles, Clarkston’s Elise Rooney is the top seed after upsetting Cheney’s Jenna Donnerberg 6-2, 7-5 in the championship match. Colville’s Abby Lentz then beat Donnerberg to claim the final seed to the state tournament. The Clarkston boys and the Colville girls earned the team titles.
