Auditions

Spokane Area Children’s Chorus – Auditions for new students age 7-18 are being held by appointment. Call (509) 624-7992, ext. 13.

Festival at Sandpoint Chorus – Auditions for singers for the Festival at Sandpoint’s opening-night “A Musical Reunion” concert, featuring Broadway choruses, will be Wednesday from 3-6 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, Olive and Ontario Streets in Sandpoint. Auditioners should come with a song prepared and sheet music. An accompanist will be provided. Performance date: Aug. 2. Call (208) 263-3504 to set an audition time.

“A Bad Year for Tomatoes” – Pend Oreille Players, June 4 and 5 at 8:30 p.m. at Sadie Halstead Elementary, 331 S. Calispel, Newport, Wash. Needed: three men and four women. Auditioners will be asked to read cold from the script. Performance dates: Aug. 3-12. Call (208) 448-2765.

Classes and workshops

Mosaic Saucers – Learn how to use broken dishes and tile to decorate a saucer, Saturday, 1-3:30 p.m. at the Tinman Gallery, 811 W. Garland. Cost: $25, plus $10 for supplies. Call (509) 325-1500 to register.

Hand Drumming Workshops – Eight-week sessions focus on drums from around the world: West African drumming, Thursdays, 6-7 p.m. beginning next Thursday; Middle Eastern drumming, Fridays, 6-7 p.m. beginning June 1; or Afro-Cuban drumming, Saturdays, noon-1 p.m. beginning June 2. Celtic Fiddle and Mandolin Workshop – Learn traditional dance music from Ireland and Scotland with U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Champion Jamie Laval, June 2, 2-4 p.m. at Holy Names Music Center, 3910 W. Call for artists

Post Falls Library Poster Contest – Students age 11-18 are invited to create a poster around the theme “Get a Clue @ Your Library.” The work can be drawn, painted or collage. Posters should be at least 11 by 14 inches but no larger than a full sheet of poster board. Winners will receive cash prizes. The deadline is Saturday. Canine Caper – Organizers are in need of a T-shirt design for the fourth annual Canine Caper on Aug. 4 at the Boundary County Fairgrounds. Shirts will be given to all walk finishers. The design contest winner will receive $100; there are also prizes of $75 for second place and $25 for third. The deadline is June 22. First Night Spokane – The annual New Year’s Eve celebration is looking for performers and visual artists for more than 40 locations in downtown Spokane. s.m.Art by the River Festival of the Arts – The St. Maries Council for the Arts is looking for artists and handcrafters to submit applications for the annual festival in July. Applicants must include photos or images on CD. Colville Arts Foundation – Artists and crafters are needed to provide work for display at Colville City Hall and the Colville Chamber of Commerce. Artists must install their own exhibit and no commissions are taken. Call (509) 684-3002.

Spokane Park’n Swap – Artists and crafters are needed for the flea and farmer’s market at the old Newport Cinemas at Highway 2 and Hawthorne Road.
