M’s put Reitsma on DL, recall Green

Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

St. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Seattle Mariners placed right-hander Chris Reitsma on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday because of inflammation in his right elbow, and recalled right-hander Sean Green from Triple-A Tacoma to take his place in the bullpen.

The Mariners also announced that pitcher Julio Mateo, who was arrested and charged with assault earlier this month after a dispute with his wife, will be activated from the Triple-A inactive list and report to Tacoma today and will be available to pitch Friday. Reitsma’s move was retroactive to May 19. He had been unavailable for the past several days before of elbow discomfort.

Mariners manager Mike Hargrove said right-hander Jason Davis will move into a setup role. He prefers not using hard-throwing Brandon Morrow, who entered in the seventh on Tuesday and threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings, on consecutive days.

Meanwhile, starting pitcher Jeff Weaver threw 43 pitches in his first bullpen session Tuesday since going on the DL.

His status will be reviewed after a couple of additional mound sessions.
