Hints from Heloise

The Spokesman-Review

Dear Heloise: I used to create a weekly shopping list by jotting down things that I needed. If I was out of something or nearly out, I would add it to the list. Inevitably, I would forget things that I hadn’t noticed needed replacing. I had to go back to the store or else wait another week.

Here’s what I do now: I made a computerized, alphabetical list of all the products that I regularly use. Using a small font, I print out the list. Then, I go down the list and cross out the things that I do not need. If I’m not sure, I go check my inventory. This way, I don’t miss something that I hadn’t thought of. I take the list to the store and buy the items that are not crossed out.

I can add items to my list at any time. Of course, I’m free to buy items not on the list, but this method assures me that all the basics are covered. – Fred Kopp, Washington, Pa.
