Weather Extremes

After seeing hundreds of records fall over the last several months, only 19 extremes were reported for the week of Oct. 28 through Nov. 3.

There were nine high temperature records, four low temperature records and only two precipitation extremes.

The rest were low maximum and high minimum records.

Many of the high temperature records were felt in the southwestern United States. On Oct. 28, Tucson, Ariz., soared to 94 degrees. It was 97 degrees in Phoenix, Ariz., that day.

Seattle tied a record of 60 degrees on Nov. 3.

Washington state also reported two of the record lows that week. On Oct. 18, it was 18 degrees at Boundary Dam.

It was 27 degrees at Whitman Mission on Oct. 29.

On Nov. 3, moisture from the remnants of Hurricane Noel dropped 1.63 inches of rain at Caribou, Maine.

October was also the warmest ever in parts of the East. Wilmington, Del., reported an average temperature of 63.5 degrees, a record.

Allentown, N.J. also reported a new mean temperature record for October of 60.8 degrees.

Record high average temperatures were felt in Florida. The mean high reading at Melbourne was 80.7 degrees, which was over 5 degrees above normal.

Daytona Beach and Vero Beach, Fla., also reported record average highs for October.
