Greyhounds eliminated from state tournament
PULLMAN – The Pullman girls soccer team was eliminated from the State 2A tournament after falling 5-1 to Burlington-Edison in the quarterfinals.
Carolyn Ranten opened the scoring for the Tigers with a goal in the 10th minute. The Greyhounds’ Jessica Thomas responded with a goal in the 15th minute to tie the match at 1.
It was all Burlington-Edison from then on.
Keri Arendse scored the next two goals to give the Tigers a 3-1 halftime advantage.
Burlington-Edison’s Sarah Berentson and Krista Studebaker scored second-half goals.
Michelle Wesen made five saves for the Tigers, who held a 14-6 advantage in shots.
Pullman finished its season with an 18-4 record, the most wins in school history.
Burlington-Edison advances to play the winner of today’s Cheney (17-3)-West Valley (16-4) match.
