Lapwai girls beat Kellogg

Annie Kane hit a pair of 3-pointers and finished with 11 points to lead Lapwai to a 55-45 season-opening victory over visiting Kellogg in girls basketball action on Saturday.

Marissa Bush buried three 3-pointers en route to a game-high 17 points for Kellogg. Teammate Amanda Seeling also finished with 17 points.

Football

Salmon River edged Kootenai 20-18 in a State 1A Division II eight-man semifinal game in Riggins, Idaho.

•Jared Byers ran for 181 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries to power the unbeaten Pullman Greyhounds (11-0) to a 36-10 victory over visiting Ephrata in a State 2A first-round game.

Next up for Pullman is a quarterfinal duel with Burlington-Edison (10-1).

In another State 2A first-round game, James Valdez scored on a 3-yard run in overtime to lift the Othello Huskies to a 27-21 victory over the Colville Indians in Othello.

•Jordan Hughes rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns, caught five passes for 147 yards and a score and returned a punt 35 yards for a TD to lead the Almira/Coulee-Hartline Warriors to a 52-14 victory over the visiting Garfield-Palouse Vikings in a State B playoff opener.
