Lecavalier, Lightning lash ‘Canes

Vincent Lecavalier had three goals and two assists to set a team record with his sixth consecutive multipoint game, leading the Tampa Bay Lightning past the Carolina Hurricanes 6-1 on Wednesday night in Tampa, Fla.

Lecavalier scored twice and also assisted on goals by Paul Ranger and Martin St. Louis during a five-goal second period that put the Lightning up 5-0.

The center completed the hat trick with a short-handed breakaway goal with 5:09 remaining in the third.

Johan Holmqvist made 28 saves for the Lightning, who have won four in a row after a six-game skid. Tampa Bay also got a goal from Vinny Prospal.

Rangers 4, Devils 2: At Newark, N.J., Jaromir Jagr and Brandon Dubinsky scored second-period goals against Martin Brodeur, spoiling the New Jersey goalie’s second chance at 500 wins and lifting New York over the Devils.

Jamie Langenbrunner scored twice for New Jersey in his first game following off-season surgery.

Blue Jackets 4, Blackhawks 2: At Columbus, Ohio, Rick Nash, Sergei Fedorov and Jason Chimera each had a goal and an assist, and the Blue Jackets beat Chicago.

Dan Fritsche scored for Columbus.

Defensemen Duncan Keith and Dustin Byfuglien scored for the Blackhawks.

Sharks 4, Stars 3 (SO): At Dallas, rookie Devin Setoguchi and Patrick Marleau connected in the shootout after scoring regulation goals, and San Jose beat Dallas in the Stars’ first game since a major front office shake-up.

Oilers 1, Canucks 0 (SO): At Vancouver, British Columbia, Ales Hemsky scored the only goal in a shootout and Mathieu Garon came up big in goal to lead Edmonton to a win over the Canucks.

Garon made 29 saves through overtime and stopped all three in the shootout to get the best of Vancouver goalie Roberto Luongo, who matched him until the end.
