Nation in brief: Date set for new writers’ strike talks

Hollywood film and TV writers who’ve been on a nearly two-week strike against studios will return to contract negotiations on Nov. 26, their union and producers said Friday.

In a joint statement, the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers said both sides had agreed to return to formal negotiations. The statement said no other details would be released.

Some writers applauded the return to talks.

“That’s fabulous, that’s great,” said Sean Jablonski, a writer for the FX drama “Nip/Tuck.” “You can’t get a deal until two sides sit down and talk about it.”

Prison bus hits deer; worker dies

A bus carrying Montana State Prison employees to work struck a deer and overturned Friday morning, killing a state employee and injuring more than two dozen other people.

The bus with about 26 people onboard came to rest on its right side about 5:30 a.m. in the median of Interstate 90 near Warm Springs, about 50 miles southwest of Helena.

Nurses driving to work at the prison stopped to help.

“It was a simple deer crash that turned chaotic,” said Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Rodger Kenney.
