Lessons of history

The Spokesman-Review

The attitude of some in America is disappointing and dangerous. It goes beyond opposition to the president and the Iraq war to expressions of anti-America, the military and God.

These sentiments permeate many in the “elite media,” Hollywood and “far left” politics, which unfortunately influence some Americans. People must understand history and recognize the current obvious danger.

We fought Revolutionary War for our freedom, Civil War to free slaves, World War I saved Europe, World War II saved the world, Korean War saved Korea and threat to Japan, Vietnam War to stop spread of Communism, U.S. led/U.S.S.R. cold war saved Europe for the third time in the 20th century, and the first Iraq war prevented a tyrannical dictator from controlling the Middle East and its oil.

The Afghanistan war freed people and closed terrorist camps and (before) the second Iraq war, Saddam violated 17 U.N. resolutions and prevented total inspections. If we had support from our “allies” (bribed by Saddam in the food-for-oil scandal), war could have been avoided.

A stable, free Iraq could be a catalyst for change in the Middle East and potentially moderating influence over extreme Muslim radicalism.

The world would not be free today without America and its military.
