Libraries receive reading grant

The Spokane Library, Spokane County Library District and Fairchild Air Force Base Library have received a national grant to host a Big Read celebration from January through June next year.

The grant will allow the region to participate in a program that promotes reading of novels through reader and teacher guides, publicity, Web site support and local reading events such as book discussions.

Details are being developed, Susan Creed, the lead contact for Big Read events in Spokane, said in a press release.

Spokane, which will get $9,000, is one of 127 communities receiving the grants from the National Endowment for the Arts.
